Isaac d'Israeli was not a particularly religious man, resigning as a member of his synagogue in 1817. Isaac's friend, Sharon Turner, a devout Anglican, convinced Isaac to have his children baptised into the Church of England, thus avoiding a life of closed doors and prejudice. On July 11, 1817, Turner took Ralph and James to be baptised. The elder children did not consent until later, Benjamin was baptised on July 31st, and Sarah, on August 28th. Neither Isaac nor his wife were ever baptised.
