Benjamin Disraeli
1804 - 1881
|
Benjamin Disraeli, brother of
Sarah, first Earl of Beaconsfield,
man of letters, and Conservative politician (eventually Prime
Minister of Britain for two terms, 1868 and 1874 - 1880), was born of
a literary father. Throughout his
political life, Benjamin was a prolific writer of letters and books.
Both his politics and his literary endeavours were of primary concern
to his sister, who dedicated her later life to his career.
An interesting trait of Benjamin (usually called by his surname)
is his prolific correspondence with women. His letters to Sarah and
Lady Londonderry were somewhat
halted by his marriage to the jealous Mary
Anne; a new correspondence with the (for some reason) less
threatening Sarah Brydges
Willyams was begun during the early days of his wedded life.
