Marchioness of Londonderry (Frances Ann Emily)

1800-1865

Lady Londonderry was the eldest daughter and heir to Sir Henry Vane-Tempest and Anne Catherine, Countess of Antrim. Frances married in 1819 to Charles William, half brother to Robert Vane Steward, the 2nd Marquis. She was his second wife and she had 7 children. In 1819 he assumed the name Vane-Stewart and in 1823 he was created the 3rd Earl of Londonderry.

When Benjamin Disraeli met Lady Londonderry at a party on July 19th, 1835, he actively pursued the acquaintance, as she would provide for him entree into high society. She became Benjamin's good friend and patron. Modern biographers feel there is some suggestion of a love affair between them, but there is no real proof.
