Sir William George Hylton Jolliffe
1800-1876
William Jolliffe was the eldest son of Rev. William John Jolliffe and Julia, daughter of Sir Abraham Pytches of Streatham. His paternal grandmother was the representative of the baronial family of Hylton of Hylton Castle; therefore, in 1866 William took the title of Baron Hylton. He was the Tory MP for Petersfield (off and on) from 1837-1866. He was appointed Chief Whip by Benjamin Disraeli in 1858, and was created privy councillor in 1859.
